SUMMARY President Yoweri Museveni has advised judges to link administration of justice with prosperity, especially when dealing with commercial-related disputes. He made the call while presiding over the 8th Southern and Eastern Africa Chief Justices Forum (SEACJF) meeting at Munyonyo yesterday. Giving an example of moneylenders who disguise lending contracts as purchase contracts and cheat the ordinary people of their property, President Museveni said it is important for judges to link administration of justice with prosperity, “We are going to make a law in Uganda to fight moneylenders because they are becoming a problem. However, if it was me sitting in the case,I would ask :” How can a house in Munyonyo cost UGX Im? You can see from the content of the so-called contract that this couldn’t have been a sale, it was a borrowing and someone is using the ignorance of the other. I think it is good for you (judges) to be aware of the wider context as you are handling these cases,” the President said.
