Must Read

In August 2024, Entebbe International Airport made history by welcoming a record-setting 212,701 passengers, marking an average of 6,861 passengers per day. This achievement surpassed the previous record set in December 2023 with 198,961 passengers.

The top five busiest months at the airport now stand as:

  1. August 2024: 212,701 passengers (6,861 per day)
  2. December 2023: 198,961 passengers (6,418 per day)
  3. January 2024: 196,211 passengers (6,329 per day)
  4. July 2024: 195,909 passengers (6,319 per day)
  5. August 2023: 191,507 passengers (6,177 per day)

In addition to the remarkable passenger numbers, Entebbe International Airport also handled 5,410 metric tonnes of cargo in August 2024, consisting of 3,525 metric tonnes of exports and 1,885 metric tonnes of imports. This growth in passenger traffic and cargo activity emphasises the airport’s critical role in Uganda’s international travel and trade sectors.

To accommodate the escalating traffic, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) is diligently working on the expansion of the airport, with the first phase of the project nearing completion at 92%. The airport’s expansion aims to bolster the capacity of the passenger terminal and facilitate more international flights.

The milestone underscores the increasing significance of Entebbe International Airport as a regional hub and emphasised their commitment to enhancing facilities and services to meet the escalating demand.

This record-breaking achievement not only reflects positively on Uganda’s tourism and trade industries but also underlines the anticipated economic growth facilitated by the airport’s expansion.
